History inspiration
In 1970-80s, low rent in East Village attracted countless artists to live in the neighborhood. The neighborhood soon became a beautiful mess. Artists, musicians, play writers here completely changed 70-80s New York subculture.
LA MAMA Experimental Theater Club, Cafe Cino and many other off-broadway theaters boldly carried out play script experiment, sheltering many young play writers and actors.
Nowadays East Village gave up its liberal community spirit but the promised safety and living quality is still up in the air. Here it comes Airbnb or other kind of “hotels”, the neighborhood even more belongs to visitors and short-term tenants for “Performer”.
A concept is coming now. Some buildings would be selected and partially demolished. Its living function would partially be exchanged for broadway like theater spaces and follow some renovate ideas:
